Germination and Early Seedling Growth of Three Arabica Coffee Varieties at Four Seed Soaking Water Temperatures

It takes three weeks to analyze the germination percentage of Arabica coffee seeds germinated using paper and a three-day water-soaking method. This 3- week period is considered too long for seed distribution remote areas. Thus, we need modify this test needs be modified have shorter time. Temperature treatment one method break dormancy faster germination. study aimed obtain more precise on seeds. employed 3 x 4 factorial complete randomized block design with replications in which varieties Gayo-1, Kartika-1, Sigararutang as first factor temperature soaking water (25 0C, 50 75 90 0C) second factor. The research was conducted at Plant Breeding Laboratory, Indonesian Coffee Cocoa Research Institute (ICCRI), four months. Findings showed that interaction between treatments only found percentage. Soaking room (control) days better than 0C percentage, sprout length, vigor index. Observations could shortened 14 compared standard 21-day observation. During seedling phase, shoot growth root soaked no significant difference from control. damaged embryo resulted rotten Different led different percentages, lengths, fresh weight shoots. 30 minutes used an alternative because it small negative effect quality but shorten thetesting time days.
